The Buell™ XB RR Engine

The engine is a amazing step forward. First you notice the XR 750 styled heads and pushrod

covers. Than the giant 62 mm airhorns of the double throttle bodys.

The rockerbox- and primary- covers are casted in extra lightweight Magnesium.

The heads are constructed to accept downdraft feeding with equal lenght and turn.

The oilpump position and the drive change from radial to axial, requires a new camecover and

the ignition is now mounted on the cranksprocket of the primary, what allows propper triggertiming.

All mountings and the uniplanar construction with tiebars is like on the stock XB models.

Notice the huge carbon airhoses going from the Naca airinlet to the airbox to feed the 1.350cc V Twin.

The cylinders with a wider bolt pattern accept maximum bore (103,6mm) what Buell mixed with

the short stroke of the stock XB9 (79,4mm). That to run the high engine speed a Sporttwin need.

The velocity stacks are mounted in a small airbox connected to the carbon hoses. The injectors are

located as near as possible to the intake valves. Position of the butterflies comes by TPS sensors.

Notice how much bigger the “double R” inlet valve is comparing to the stock XB.

They are also longer to accept more lift and they are special flow optimized.

Behind the frontfairing the catchcans for the engine breathers and the fueltank are

located. On the left a 11 line aluminium oilcooler is mounted to reduce the oiltemperature.

The wave analyzed Header- and Exhaussystem use equal lenght of the header to optimize filling

of the cylinders. The header- pieces are mounted my springs to compensate extension.

All engine components are lightweight construction to minimize the rotating masses.The

RR Pistons are carrying a asymetric dome fitting in the Hemi bathtub combustion chamber.

Today engine management components and data collecting are the key of succes. Buell use a small oqo handheld computer

to administrate the fuell/ignition system. A great option is to fix the oqo for testrides on the bike to run datarecording of all sensors.
